What kind of information you can find on the website

The War and Sanctions website provides information about current sanctions against Russia and its allies, as well as individuals and businesses that contribute to the war against Ukraine but are not yet sanctioned by the West. DIU emphasizes that the database is a digital weapon that exposes what Russia and its allies are trying to hide.

The portal has already opened access to sections “Components in weapons” and “Child kidnappers“. The first section contains information on about 3,000 foreign components identified in weapons from Russia, Iran and North Korea. The second section was published on the International Children’s Day and contains data on 245 people from Russia and Belarus involved in this crime against Ukraine.

Soon, the War and Sanctions website will also publish information in the following categories: 

● persons under sanctions of the international coalition; 

● foreign equipment used by the aggressor country in the production of weapons; 

● transport, ports and airports involved in the transportation of weapons, the circumvention of sanctions and the export of Ukrainian products; 

● persons to whom sanctions should be applied; 

● works of art in the private ownership of sanctioned persons.

The DIU press service promised to regularly update this database.

Why was the War and Sanctions project created and who contributed to it

In April 2022, the National Agency for the Corruption Prevention (NACP) created the War and Sanctions project to facilitate the exit of businesses from Russia and to ensure reputational pressure on them.

A number of state authorities and think tanks have been working to identify companies that continue to supply Russia with components and machines for the production of weapons. In particular, our team of analysts and investigative journalists provided the NACP with information about individuals and companies that still have close ties to Russia, sell components or machines for the production of Russian weapons and/or help Russia circumvent sanctions. The Trap Aggressor media project and the StateWatch think tank were official partners of the NACP in the War and Sanctions project. 

At the end of March 2024, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine closed access to the website. After that, the international coalition of civil society organizations B4Ukraine and Trap Aggressor issued a public statement calling on the government to open access to the database.

Trap Aggressor will continue to identify companies that illegally supply weapons and machines for the production of Russian weapons. Our team is open to cooperation with the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine to put reputational pressure on international businesses and strengthen sanctions policies against the aggressor country and its allies.
