By the end of June 2025, the Google Chrome browser will stop supporting key Russian electronic signature plugins, such as CryptoPro and the extension for the Gosuslugi portal. This decision will effectively paralyze the work with electronic documents on many Russian government platforms.

What happened to Google Chrome?

Google is switching to a new security standard for extensions – Manifest V3. All plugins that work according to the old Manifest V2 standard will be disabled. Among them are the CryptoPro Extension for CAdES Browser Plug-in and the extension for the Government Services. They have already been removed from the Chrome Web Store, and newer versions of the browser automatically disable these plugins, even if they were installed earlier.

Implications for Russian users

Without these plugins, Russians will not be able to:

• Sign documents on government portals such as Gosuslugi, Rosreestr, and others.
• Log in with an electronic signature.
• Work with electronic document management in Chrome.

This creates problems for Russians, businesses, and government officials who depend on these tools in their daily work.
