On 1 September 2025, the War & Sanctions website, in its Instruments of War section, published new data on the large-scale use of foreign technologies by the Russian armoured vehicle manufacturer. The update includes a list of 143 units of foreign technological equipment used by the state-owned enterprise Uralvagonzavod, which has repeatedly featured in investigations by Trap Aggressor, the research project of the StateWatch think tank.

Uralvagonzavod is a Russian state-owned corporation that manufactures tanks and other armoured military vehicles. It is part of the state corporation Rostec. The plant modernises and produces T-72B3M, T-80BVM, and T-90M Proryv tanks, as well as armoured reconnaissance vehicles and armoured recovery vehicles, and regularly supplies military equipment to the Russian army. In addition, Uralvagonzavod manufactures trucks and semi-trailers, including under contracts with Russia’s Ministry of Defence for transporting personnel and military equipment. Since September 2022, Uralvagonzavod has been operating around the clock to meet the needs of the Russian army. Moreover, in 2022–2023, enterprises within the UVZ group reduced the production of civilian railcars in favour of military output.

Among the published data is information on modern machine tools from leading global manufacturers. In particular, Uralvagonzavod uses:

German equipment:

  • Hermle C30U vertical machining centre and Hermle C1200U universal machining centre
  • Specialised equipment complex from Klingelnberg Group, including the Oerlikon C 60 gear cutting machine, the Oerlikon B 27 grinding machine, measuring centres, and head-setting devices

Czech equipment:

  • Masturn 550i/1500 and SP-280 MC lathes manufactured by Kovosvit MAS
  • ARG 230 band saw manufactured by Pilous s.r.o.

American equipment:

  • HURCO TMM-8 vertical lathes

All the listed equipment has serial numbers and a specifically documented location within the corporation’s facilities.

Earlier, Trap Aggressor journalists reported that the Italian company Camozzi continued to supply pneumatic equipment to the Russian industry even after the start of the full-scale invasion. According to the investigation, among the clients of Camozzi’s Russian branch was Uralvagonzavod, which had received spare parts for metalworking as early as 2018. After the outbreak of the war, the Italian company delivered products worth USD 61 million to its Russian partner, including power units and pneumatic engines valued at USD 3.6 million.
