A significant share of Russians profiting from weapons production and the growth of Russia’s military-industrial complex still own real estate and businesses in the EU, the United States, and the United Kingdom. In 2024 StateWatch’s Trap Aggressor project gathered data and published a map of European assets owned by Russians linked to arms manufacturing. At that time, the map covered European assets of networks producing drones and other weapons in Russia. The project’s analysts and journalists have now expanded the map with new information on property held by Russia’s “beneficiaries of war,” found independently or in investigations by colleagues from other media.

The map now includes companies, luxury real estate, yachts, land assets, and patents. In particular, it has been expanded with assets belonging to Russian inventors in the defense sector, executives of major state-owned and private corporations, relatives of oligarchs, and other individuals who—directly or through family ties—are involved in the development of Russia’s military-industrial complex.

Among the findings by analysts and journalists are elite properties of oligarchs Alisher Usmanov, Mikhail Fridman, Viktor Vekselberg, Sergey Chemezov, as well as companies tied to the head of “Rosoboronexport,” Alexander Mikheev.

The map will continue to be updated in future iterations and will help Western oversight bodies locate individuals profiting from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
